How long do LED neon signs last?

Find out about the lifespan of LED neon signs. See how our signs stay bright and reliable for years.

  • Our LED neon signs are designed to last up to 40,000 hours. While we warranty both the sign and its electronic equipment for 2-years from the date of purchase. The warranty does not include any accidental damage, or purposeful damage for that matter.
  • After a period of time, the power supply may fail (if the whole sign is not powering on, that is likely the issue). That’s a quick and simple fix, removing the existing transformer and plugging in a new one.
  • Short-circuits can happen, typically its best to fully replace a sign in that case. Often that just means a positive/negative wire inside the sign is touching, this can happen over time with heat or even regular transport/movement of the sign.
  • If the acrylic breaks, that’s a full replacement. It’s like glass, it can’t be healed or swapped out. You’d be better off making a brand new sign than removing the LED neon and adding that to a new sheet of acrylic. The time to remove the LED neon, and the damage that can happen while removing the LED neon pretty much makes it not worth it!
  • However, you know what lasts longer than LED? Traditional glass neon, while it is much more fragile to install and transport neon signs can last 40 years plus, while just having their transformers replaced or the tubes regassed as long as those tubes aren’t smashed or cracked.

Our LED neon signs are built to last up to 40,000 hours — that’s years of consistent glow when used properly. Every sign also comes with a 2-year warranty that covers both the LED and the electrical components.

That said, here’s what to expect over time:

Power supply failure?

If your sign suddenly stops turning on, it’s usually just thetransformer. Swapping it out is quick and easy — unplug the old one, plug in the new. We can help with that, and you’ll find them for purchase on our website if yours has failed outside of warranty.

Short circuits?

Occasionally, internal wiring can shift over time due to heat or frequent movement. If a positive and negative wire touch, the circuit can short. In most cases, it’s best to fully replace the signrather than try and repair it. Repairs can cost more time (and damage) than they’re worth.

Cracked acrylic?

Unfortunately, like glass, broken acrylic can’t be repaired. And removing LED flex from a damaged base often leads to more breakage. In that case, a brand new sign is usually the most practical (and cost-effective) fix.

Fun fact:

Traditional glass neon signs can last over 40 years — as long as the tubes aren’t cracked or smashed. They’ll just need the occasional transformer replacement or re-gassing. Of course, they’re a lot more fragile and harder to move — which is why many choose LED instead. We make both LED & Glass neon signs, so just let us know what you’d like.
